Wendy Williams’ fainting spell on Halloween became a marketing opportunity for one bold start-up.
Nectar Sleep, a year-old mattress-in-a-box company, shipped off one of its king-size beds to the talk show host, who is expected to post an Instagram video about it on Friday.
Williams, dressed up as the Statue of Liberty, passed out on live TV. She said she got overheated and dizzy.
“We are manufacturing a mattress that gets a lot of attention for being therapeutic,” said co-founder Craig Schmeizer, “When we heard what happened to Wendy, we thought we could help.”
It doesn’t hurt that Nectar’s public relations company, 5W, also represents Williams.
Last week, the publicist got Victoria’s Secret model Nina Agdal to make a video of herself bouncing on a Nectar bed. Agdal is a former girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio, who is an investor in Nectar’s rival Casper.
Agdal and Williams are not formally shilling for Nectar, Schmeizer said, but they did get free mattresses.
