A helicopter crashed near the site of a violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville Saturday, killing two people, according to local reports.
The chopper plummeted into a “wooded area” around 4:50 p.m. seven miles southwest of Charlottesville on Old Farm Road near the Birdwood Golf Course, The Daily Progress reported.
The helicopter crashed after it hovering closely over houses, neighbors told the local paper said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation and the identities of the people who passed away have yet to be revealed, according to a Facebook post by the Virginia state police.
Authorities have yet to confirm if the helicopter was a police chopper.
A live stream of the scene posted to Facebook by the Daily Progress shows a massive gathering of police officers around the site.
It’s unclear if the crash is related to the Charlottesville chaos.
